10. As we write books and stories, how much should we worry about society's values?

Hi. This is a compelling question. Since writing is an art, then, as an artist, I think a writer should speak from their beliefs. After all, what is my work if I don’t passionately believe what I’m saying? And I think writers should speak the truths society needs to hear. (This is my general take on art, that it should provide some kind of valuable insight.) Thus, my writing, my voice and truth, is going to enter the field of society’s values—a field that is usually at best a debate and at worst a hostile shouting contest. Simply mention AI in a Facebook writer’s group, and you’ll see how good and how poor we can be at discussing values. So what should my art do, if I were to write a story about a writer using AI, and in this way I added my voice and insight to the field of discussion? Even as some praise and some criticize what I have to say, I have to write with the aim that my contribution will add more light than heat to the discussion.
